Real Estate Appraiser resources for Rhode Island
Real Estate Appraiser Information for the State of Rhode Island
Real estate appraisers are required to be licensed, per Title XI of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act (FIRREA) of 1989. This act required that each of the states establish an agency for the licensure, certification, and regulation of appraisers.
In Rhode Island, the Division of Commercial Licensing and Regulation is in charge of this oversight.
There are four classifications of real estate appraiser in the State of Rhode Island. These classifications are:
- Trainee Appraiser
- Licensed Residential Appraiser
- Certified Residential Appraiser
- Certified General Appraiser
Those new to a career in real estate appraisals must begin as a Trainee Appraiser. There is no experience required. However, it is necessary to complete the state required coursework to become a Trainee Appraiser. The trainee must then work under a supervisor for a specified number of hours in order to be eligible to become a licensed or certified appraiser.
