Real Estate Appraiser resources for Louisiana

Real Estate Appraiser Information for the State of Louisiana

Real estate appraisers are required to be licensed, per Title XI of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act (FIRREA) of 1989.    This act required that each of the states establish an agency for the licensure, certification, and regulation of appraisers.

In Louisiana, the Louisiana Real Estate Appraisers Board (REAB) is in charge of this oversight.

There are three classifications of real estate appraiser in the State of Louisiana.  These classifications are:

  1. Real Estate Appraiser Trainee
  2. Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser
  3. Certified General Real Estate Appraiser

Those new to a career in real estate appraisals must begin as a Real Estate Appraiser Trainee.  There is no experience required.  However, it is necessary to complete the state required coursework to become a Real Estate Appraiser Trainee.  The trainee must then work under a supervisor for a specified number of hours in order to be eligible to become a licensed or certified appraiser.
