Real Estate Appraiser resources for Arizona

Real Estate Appraiser Information for the State of Arizona

Real estate appraisers are required to be licensed, per Title XI of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act (FIRREA) of 1989.    This act required that each of the states establish an agency for the licensure, certification, and regulation of appraisers.

In Arizona, the Department of Financial Institutions, Real Estate Appraisal Division is in charge of this oversight.

There are five classifications of real estate appraiser in the State of Arizona.  These classifications are:

  1. Registered Trainee Appraiser
  2. State Licensed Real Estate Appraiser
  3. State Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser
  4. State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser
  5. Designated Supervisory Appraiser

Those new to a career in real estate appraisals must begin as a Registered Trainee Appraiser.  There is no experience required.  However, it is necessary to complete the state required coursework to become a Registered Trainee Appraiser.  The trainee must then work under a supervisor for a specified number of hours in order to be eligible to become a licensed or certified appraiser.
